The National Curriculum is heavily focussed on the technical accuracy of writing. The progression in learning from Yrs 1-6 enables children to acquire key skills and understanding in the areas of grammar and punctuation.
At MOSPS we recognise the value of good grammar and teach it as part of our English Curriculum in the following ways: discretely - in planned grammar lessons; as part of our everyday English reading and writing lessons and through other areas of the curriculum - where possible and/or appropriate.
The school bases its delivery of grammar and punctuation skills on the guidelines set out by the National Curriculum and uses a range of support materials to help staff and children achieve age-realted expectations.
Key support materials include the No Nonsense Grammar series
and the Headstart Grammar & Punctuation series.
You can access the age-related content of this element of the National Curriculum through the Appendix link below.
If you have any questions regarding the teaching of grammar and punctuation, please do not hesitate to get in contact with your child's class teacher.
