Fieldwork at Hurst Spit
On Thursday 26th September, Year 5/6 spent a windy morning exploring the effects of erosion on Milford seafront and Hurst Spit as part of our Investigating Coasts topic. We learnt about a variety of coastal defences including curved sea walls, boulders and steps, which all help to deflect and reduce the power of the waves, as well as groynes, which help to prevent Longshore Drift. We also talked about the Valentine's Day Storm of 2014, the effect that it had on our coastline and the changes that have happened since then. We can't wait to find out more as our topic progresses and we are especially excited to see some incredible coastal features and compare our local coast to that of Lulworth during our next trip in a few weeks' time!
