Our intentions in Modern Foreign Languages
At Milford-on-Sea Primary School ‘We CARE’ about language education. It fosters curiosity in the world and deepens understanding of identity, diversity, cultures and world views. It also gives a sense of how languages are interconnected and continually evolving and borrowing from each other. Children can also explore national and international contexts in which languages are spoken in different continents i.e. Spanish in Latin America.
Our teaching of Spanish enables pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. Our link sister school in Pamplona gives our pupils regular opportunity to write letters and Skype each other. This ensures that children celebrate our similarities and differences in a meaningful way.
Learning a language also helps our pupils’ Growth Mindset and provides the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in our global community.
Here at Milford-on-Sea Primary School, we are very lucky to be linked with Sagrado Corazón in Pamplona, Spain. Year 5 and 6 regularly exchange letters with the pupils at the school and experience live link ups where they have the opportunity to communicate in Spanish.
