The children are really keen to find out about cold places for our new topic in the Spring Term. As we are in the middle of the season of Winter, this seemed the perfect topic! As always, our topic began with a story - Poles Apart by Jeanne Willis. At school we have made the North Pole and South Pole in our role-play areas, which the children are really enjoying – finding out about different animals that live at each end of the earth, at the Poles. The children learning at home have been set the task of creating their own ‘cold place’ role-play den. We’ve seen some fantastic creations! In English, we made fact files about different Arctic and Antarctic animals. They really enjoyed sharing what they knew already and finding out about the different animals that lived in these cold places. In maths, we have been developing our calculation skills using model magic penguins. The children have created some super number stories using the penguins, combining by counting all and subtracting by taking away. We also began drawing our number stories too.
