A Second Silver for MOSPS Tennis Stars!
On another very warm afternoon (described by Mrs Rand as a ‘scorcher’!) our senior tennis team set off to see if they could match the efforts of last week’s Yr 3-4 team.
The afternoon followed a similar format to last week’s event, but with only four schools in attendance, the games were 10 minutes long, rather than 8 - making them a tough ask under such a warm sun. The twelve players were split into three teams and each team played matches against the other three schools.
All of our team performed well, earning a good numbers of wins over the three rounds and each point won by each of the twelve players went towards the final totals, so this really was a team event. The efforts of our super, senior players saw us notch up an incredible 637 points over the afternoon. This fantastic achievement placed us as runners up to the tournament winners, Pennington (700 points), and take home silver medals – mirroring last week’s result. Completing the podium places were Brockenhurst Primary in third place with 610 points.
Mrs Rand, who again had to manage all the teams, said, “The children did so well on such a scorching afternoon. It was tricky to keep up with all the points, but I knew we were doing well. Everyone really did deserve medals, so I am so pleased we matched last week’s team! The Sports Value at the event was ‘Determination’, and we certainly showed lots of that! But a particular well done to Eimhir and Luke, who were presented with determination wristbands by the PSP staff.”
Thanks, as always to Mrs Rand for her coordinating and coaching skills, to all the parents who helped to transport the children to and from the event and of course to our ‘Top Tennis Team’ for representing the school so well!.
Next week sees a break from PSP action, but we’ll be back in July for some afternoons of rounders.
