Our Aim in Literacy

We believe that competence in Literacy is a fundamental life skill. We strive to deliver an English curriculum that enables all children to develop the skills and knowledge required for them to communicate effectively through spoken and written language at home, at school and in the wider world.

We want our pupils to leave MOSPS with the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing which enable them to organise and express their own thoughts and feelings and to access the knowledge and ideas of others.

Literacy is central to children’s intellectual, emotional and social development and has an essential role across the curriculum. At MOSPS our English provision is underpinned by our ‘We Care’ values.

Our curriculum seeks to engage and inspire children through diverse, quality texts, which encourage them to explore new ideas; examine their own and others’ experiences; broaden their horizons; build an appreciation of the power of language and spark a lifelong love of reading. We want our pupils to develop the courage to respond personally, critically and imaginatively to what they have read.

We recognise the subject’s importance in helping our pupils become Global citizens and aim, through our curriculum to develop our pupils’ empathy, respect for diversity and imagination to recognise their place in local, national and global communities.
