Mary Rose Museum trip
As part of our Tudor topic, we visited the recently opened Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth, home of the Mary Rose and where she sailed from on her doomed venture 469 years ago.
We learnt about the flagship of Henry VIII's fleet and her 33 years of service, imagining life on board as a navigator tasked with finding the best route for the ship and using instruments of the time to measure the speed and depth of the ship. We also learnt about the cannons used on battle ships and even had a go at gun drills, preparing a breech cannon for firing!
