This term we have been learning all about The Himalayas!
We have been using our Geography skills and locating The Himalayas on a map and a globe. We found that they are very close to lots of different countries, including China, India and Nepal, and are located in Asia. We've also used Google Earth to zoom in and out of the mountain range and have found out about the tallest mountains on each continent.
We have made our own mountain ranges, and have used our computing skills to create Blue Peter style videos showing how to make these.
We found out who the first people to conquer Mount Everest were and had a think about what items we would need to pack if we were to go on our own Mount Everest expedition.
We have found out about the country of Nepal and have compared the Geographical features, both human and physical, like the capital city, language, currency, religion, rivers and mountains.
We were very lucky to receive an awesome visit from Joey, who is part of Freedom to Learn, a charity working with our sister school, Kushadevi, which is located in the hills of Nepal. Joey brought lots of interesting items in from Nepal and helped us to find out what it is like to go to school there. We were able to send Joey our questions before she came in, and she was able to contact SK out in Nepal, and he sent us some videos and an email replying to all of our questions.
At the end of our topic, we created our own information texts sharing our new learning.
