Global Art Project 2021
Having been approached by Gill Hickman, who is one of the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award Assessors, to help her in producing the artwork for a children’s book she is writing and publishing, we selected 26 pupils from across the whole school to take part in the project.
Gill is currently working on a project in Lymington all about ‘Composting’ and ‘Kitchen Waste’ and as part of this has been awarded a grant so that she can write and produce a children’s picture book explaining how the composting process works. She has worked with a local artist, Susie Lann, who has produced the digital artwork for the main part of the book, but would like us to produce an ‘A-Z of Composting Items’ that will feature on 5-6 pages of her book. It’s very exciting to think that our school will be producing part of a real published book which will then be circulated to schools like ours!
Over a few weeks, Miss Walton has worked with our MOSPS team of artists to come up with the ideas for the ‘A-Z of Composting Items’ and to create the artwork. Children have been tasked with different parts of the project. For example, Year 5/6 came up with the ideas for the A-Z items, Years 1-4 drew the pictures, Year R painted the first layer of water colour and Year 4-6 added the final detail. Year 1/2 created the A-Z letters to finished the project.
At the end of the project, Gill and Susie came in to meet the children and for the final art work to be handed over.
