Outdoor Learning - Beach School

MOSPS Beach School

What is Beach School?

Beach School is a unique opportunity for children to immerse themselves in the wonders of the UK's seas. We aim to develop our pupils' knowledge about their local coastal environment by connecting them with nature; opening their eyes to this amazing habitat and inspiring them to care for our coasts.

Following the same ethos as Forest School, pupils at our Beach School are encouraged to explore the natural environment with its constantly changing appearance, offerings and potential learning experiences and opportunities.

Our Beach School Vision

We believe that every child should experience the wonders of our beautiful British coastlines. We are committed to providing our pupils with the opportunity to visit, learn about and fall in love with the coastal environment through hands-on learning, so that they are connected to the beach and the sea and will want to conserve and protect them for future generations.

What Happens at Beach School?

Beach School is about educating children through a varied programme of activities; raising awareness about their local coastal environment and how they can help to sustain it for future generations. These are just some of the topics we might explore:

  • How to behave sensibly and responsibly when using the beach
  • Seasons and tides
  • Pressures on the marine environment; including over-fishing and marine pollution
  • Species identification
  • Mini beach cleans
  • Environmental beach art
  • Exploring beach games

Through these activities, children will also develop important life skills, such as team work, confidence in an outdoor setting, environmental awareness and emotional intelligence.
