Our intentions in Modern Foreign Languages
At Milford-on-Sea Primary School ‘We CARE’ about language education. We believe it fosters curiosity in the world and deepens understanding of and RESPECT for identity, diversity, cultures and world views. It also gives an opportunity to EXPLORE how languages are interconnected and continually evolving and borrowing from each other.
Our teaching of MfL & Spanish should both enable and give children the COURAGE to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. It should also provide opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes, understand basic language structures and introduce them to simple, or familiar stories, songs and rhymes. Learning a language also helps develop our pupils’ Growth Mindset and provides the foundation from which we hope they will ASPIRE to extend their learning in Spanish, or learn further languages, as they progress through their learning journey into secondary school and beyond into our global community.
