This half term in Science we have been identifying the signs of Winter and comparing the signs to the recently explored Autumn season. The children have engaged in experiments to find out what materials will help melt the ice and how to keep ice solid by predicting how different materials can prevent melting in the ice.
Moving on the children then sorted, classified and identified a variety of different materials and investigated where they came from, looking carefully at their physical properties. The children went on a materials hunt across the school and recorded their findings and discussed the suitability of them.
Materials including solid objects often can change shape, we then carried out tests to observe and recorded how materials could be squashed, stretched, squeezed, and bended, twisted and stretched!
The children later compared which materials were suitable for different jobs and why that material was chosen comparing it to different physical properties. We explored, identified and named a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water, and rock.
