Yr 3-6 Indoor Athletics - 8th March

An Amazing Afternoon of Athletics

This week pupils were drawn from across KS2 to represent the school in an afternoon of Sports Hall Athletics.  The competition saw seven schools from our local area take part, each sending teams of eight to the event to take part in a range of athletics activities.

The event was organised into two halves: the first, a carousel of athletics stations, which teams worked their way around, and the second, a series of relay races. It was a real team affair, with each athlete registering their highest scores from the different activity stations to be counted towards an overall team total.

The stations included – Netball Chest Pass, Javelin Throw, Standing Long Jump, Standing High Jump and Speed Bounce, covering two of the three athletic disciplines.  Once these were done it was straight into the third discipline – running – with some relay races.  These involved the all 8 athletes and ensured that everyone ended the afternoon out of breath, but smiling! They all deserved the rest afforded to them while the scores from the relays were added to  those from the carousel to give an overall total.

Mrs Rand said that team MOSPS put in some determined performances in each event and showed great teamwork and determination. This was also spotted by the PSP staff, who awarded ‘Teamwork’ wristbands to Jude and Seth.

At the end of the afternoon, the top 2 spots were clinched by Our Lady & St Joseph’s School and William Gilpin Primary respectively, with our athletes securing a joint 3rd place spot with Beaulieu Primary.

A great afternoon was had by all and team MOSPS can be proud of the way they competed and supported one another throughout the event.

Thank you to Mrs Rand, for coordinating the team, to the parents who helped with transport and, of course to all our brilliant athletes.

Next week sees the first of two Netball competitions, beginning with the Yr 3-4 event.
