Yr 5-6 PSP Netball Competition - 22nd March

SUPERSONIC JETS TRIUMPH AGAIN!

Having barely dried their kit after their amazing performance on Monday at the New Forest event, the Milford Jets were straight back into action on Wednesday at the Priestlands Y5/6 Netball tournament. Having not featured in the PSP calendar over the last couple of years (due to the pandemic and the weather), it was great to see this event back!

It was well-attended too, with six other local schools joining Milford in sending one team (squad of 7 players) to the event, which was run as a straight round-robin affair, meaning there was plenty of netball to be played over the afternoon.

Our Jets started rather tentatively against Brock, with each goal being answered by the opponents to keep the score level, but it didn’t take too long for Milford to shake off those nerves and find a little more consistency and a few more goals. They ended a hard-fought opening match worthy winners, 9 goals to 5.

With their nerves now gone, they were smiling, enjoying their netball and completely into their stride, showing once again what hard work and regular practice can achieve. They dominated the court in their next five matches scoring another hatful of goals and not conceding any!

Their effort over the course of the afternoon earned them a second set of gold medals in a week and another shield for the trophy cabinet. Brockenhurst took second spot and Our Lady & St Joseph’s claimed the bronze medals. Congratulations, once again, to all the members of the Jets, for playing so well, but Clover and Georgia get a special mention for being awarded Respect wristbands from the Priestlands school staff.

Coach Brown commented that “The girls were worthy recipients of the wristbands, but the whole team played in the right spirit. I was very proud of them all. Playing so well, so soon after their heroics on Monday, shows what super netballers they have become. They were a pleasure to watch!”

Thank you to Coach Brown for accompanying the team on Wednesday and giving up even more of her time. Thanks, as always, to Mrs Rand for managing the logistics, and to the parents who transported and cheered along the courtside.

Well done Jets – another fantastic afternoon of netball. Everyone here at MOSPS is really proud of what you have already achieved and wishes you, and the Rockets, the best of luck on Monday at the County Cup Tournament!

Next week’s PSP event is back to the pool, for the postponed KS1 FUN Swimming event
