Yr 5-6 Swimming Gala - 25th Jan

Yr 5-6 Swimmers Bring Back Bronze In Exciting Gala

This week saw our Yr 5-6 pupils take to the poolside at Lymington Leisure Centre for the second of three swimming events in the PSP calendar. Buoyed by the performance of our Yr 3-4 team, the swimmers were all super keen to compete against our local schools.

Covid hit last years event, reducing the number of entrants to two schools, so this year it was great to see five schools signed up. Each school was represented by 10 swimmers (except MOSPS, who had two absent on the day) and such big numbers meant high levels of competition and excitement! The afternoon followed the same format as last week’s event beginning with front crawl races for both girls and boys, followed by backstroke and then breaststroke races. Team MOSPS put in some great performances, securing a few first and second places. When the points were tallied before the Relay races, we were placed third behind Brockenhurst and William Gilpin (joint second) and Our Lady & St Joseph’s in top spot.

While there were no 1st places for our swimmers in the relay races they did manage a few 2nd and 3rd place finishes, giving us valuable points as we headed towards the finish. With seven relay heats done, it was over to the PSP staff to work out how some amazing performances from every school would affect the final results – It was going to be close!!

Our swimmers all gave their best and were keeping their fingers crossed that they would end up in a medal position….. and they did! When the leader board was finalised, it showed that Lymington Juniors had  achieved 5th place, Brockenhurst Primary 4th place and MOSPS 3rd place. 2nd spot went to William Gilpin and 1st place to Our Lady & St Josephs.

Mrs Rand and the parents who stayed to support must have been exhausted after cheering everyone on over 13 races. Everyone put in fantastic performances and supported each other over the afternoon and we hope they feel really proud of their bronze medals. Determination Wristbands were awarded to Brooke and Dylan. Well done to ALL of our swimmers!

Thanks, as ever, to Mrs Rand for managing the team at poolside and to all the parents who transported and supported Team MOSPS on the day.

Next week, the calendar will be interrupted by strike action, but we return on the 8th February, when we leave the pool and head into the Sports Hall for the Inclusion Sports event.
